Bush Wants to Create National Intelligence Director, Aide Says

President George W. Bush will call for the creation of a national intelligence director to coordinate all U.S. intelligence activities, spokesman Scott McClellan said.

Bush also will recommend that the U.S. establish a national counterterrorism center when he speaks about 11:20 a.m. at the White House, McClellan told reporters. Both actions are recommended by the federal commission that studied the Sept. 1, 2001, terrorist attacks. The commission investigated intelligence failures leading to the attacks, which killed almost 3,000 people.
