A top US official said Friday that China and the United States had reached an "absolute agreement" that North Korea must return to dialogue at an early date to end its nuclear ambitions peacefully.

Christopher Hill, the US ambassador to South Korea and newly-appointed chief US delegate to six-party talks on the nuclear issue, also called for a "coordinated" approach by US allies to defuse the confrontation.
