The Federal Government says it does not believe a US court decision to halt the military trial of a Guantanamo Bay detainee will have implications for Australian man David Hicks.

A Washington judge stopped the hearing of Osama bin Laden's alleged driver, questioning whether he should be covered under the Geneva conventions.

Attorney-General Philip Ruddock says the ruling does not impact on the Hicks case.
