The country's top intelligence officer's belief that the conflict in Iraq could motivate terrorist attacks on Australians has prompted the Federal Government to concede, for the first time, this may be the case.
Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer admitted yesterday it was possible that the war in Iraq might motivate some terrorist supporters in Australia to act. But this was no reason to cave in to extremist ideology or abandon the task of bringing democracy to Iraq.
