Senate inquiry finds intelligence failure over Bali

A Senate inquiry has found government travel warnings in the months before the Bali bombings did not reflect the assessment that Australians were terrorist targets. The report recommends an independent commission of inquiry to examine future arrangements to coordinate intelligence assessments and travel advisories.

The Coalition senators on the committee do not support the call for a judicial inquiry. The committee found there was a failure of intelligence but no one agency or government official was to blame, as there was no specific warning of the Bali bombings.
