Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib has been given the chance to respond to evidence given to a Senate committee which linked him to terrorism group Al Qaeda.

The Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police and the head of spy agency ASIO told Senate estimates hearings in Canberra this week that there was strong evidence to suggest Mr Habib was in Afghanistan in 2001 and met people there who had a history of murdering innocent civilians.
