WASHINGTON - CIA Director Porter Goss said Wednesday that a series of upcoming elections in countries such as Colombia, Haiti and Venezuela are a potential cause of instability in the region.

Testifying before the Senate on the security threats facing the United States, Goss noted that Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela will hold presidential elections in 2006, an unusual concentration of electoral events.
