Rebels released six Sudanese aid workers early Wednesday in Darfur, four days after they went missing during a trip to register refugees fleeing a brutal campaign of killings in the war-ravaged region, a U.N. official said.
The release comes as international aid agencies have stepped up their work in rebel-controlled areas of Darfur. The U.N. Children's Fund, UNICEF, said Wednesday it had just vaccinated up to 50,000 children against polio during a mission that saw workers traveling by camel and donkey to reach people sheltering in the bush.
