Sudan approves UN plan to ease Darfur unrest

The Sudanese Government, under threat of UN sanctions, has approved a 30 day action plan to ease the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and begin disarming outlaw groups that have been terrorising the western province, a UN spokesman has said.

"The agreement reached Wednesday night ... has now been finalised by the Sudanese Government," said Fred Eckhard, spokesman for UN secretary-general Kofi Annan.
