Darfur agencies prepare for 200,000 refugees

HUNDREDS of thousands more refugees are poised to swarm over the Sudanese border into neighbouring Chad to escape fresh fighting in Darfur, more than doubling the number of displaced people in the country and threatening to overwhelm the aid effort.

Aid workers yesterday warned that as many as 200,000 more refugees were poised to join the 180,000 who have already fled to Chad. Plans are urgently being drawn up to cope with the fresh crisis.
