One million people have become displaced in Darfur

G8 pledges to help Africa move toward peace

Resolving African conflicts emerged as the priority in the annual meeting this week between the G8 and Africa leaders, including President Thabo Mbeki.

The G8 leaders said after meeting the six African leaders that they had agreed to provide training and logistical support for up to 75 000 peacekeepers, most of them in Africa.
